The walk to the Trees, by Esme, Age 8 Up at the trees I can see the swirling grass. I can hear the birdies cheeping in the blue sky. I can see the houses in my village from the trees. My binoculars help me see far away, even to our house if you adjust them. Sometimes I see dogs going for walks. I was writing ideas for my story sitting under the tree and a dog came to visit me. I said to the owner "I am writing ideas for a story" and she said "The dog is called Benny if you would like to put Benny in your story.". Benny was blonde and now he is in my story. When we see people on the walk to the trees we have to stay apart. Sometimes we wait for them and sometimes they wait for us. We have to do this because the government says. Its' so people don't get the virus. When I sat down by the trees the ground was flat and hard. The soil was light brown. I liked sitting down by the trees. I could see things differently. The grass was tickly and I could see the bugs flying above the grass. When my mummy says "where do you want to walk today?" I choose the trees because there are lots of beautiful rocks with patterns and colours. Sometimes, but not always, there are rocks that are new. They started putting rocks at the trees at the start of lockdown. I have even done one it has a rainbow and it says Esme on one of the rainbow lines. Some people have written "stay safe" and they have have written "well done NHS". Some rocks just have splashes of paint. Some people have written their names like I have. If I see my friend's name from school I like it because it reminds me of them. I MISS THEM. I also miss Miss Smith because she is my teacher and I like her lots. I thought someone had taken my rock because I couldn't see it, but next time I walked up there it was just at another tree someone had moved it. The day I wrote ideas for my story in May 2020 it was sunny and boiling hot but at the trees there was wind and I wrote "the wind is gentle on a sunny day" in my book. I sometimes pick up dandelions and I blow them to tell the time. Also when I am not far from finishing my walk I see a horse but I don't know its name. I like lockdown as I am with my family more, but I don't like it because we don't get to do things we dream of doing. We have a dream jar for our dreams like going for a tour of the chocolate factory and my birthday treat to go to Bulid a Bear. The dreams are for after lockdown. After lockdown we won't walk as much but we will do some walks like we did in lockdown. We can see the trees as we walk to school.
