Lockdown Not A Stopdown It was just a dull, cloudy day. There was hardly anyone out on the streets. This was because of the deadly pandemic named Covid-19. I was as bored as someone in high traffic. There was nothing to do inside or outside as we couldn't go out and I had got bored of staying inside the whole day. I was just about to doze off to sleep, when I heard my brother shout to me from downstairs. What a convenient time to call me! I ran downstairs annoyed and went to the garden, where the rest of my family was having fun. I thought that it would just be to do some tedious gardening. However, in one of the trees, there was a nest with a huge pigeon in it! I love nature, and was overjoyed to see a nest in our back garden. My dad suggested that we do nest watching for a few weeks. I shouted 'Yes!' as quick as a cheetah and ran up to my room to get a pair of binoculars. Then, I looked through the binoculars to check how many eggs had been laid. There were 5 eggs as white as snow! From then on, me and my family went outside at 5:00pm to check on the nest everyday. It was soo much fun. Well, it was fun until the next week. That was when it got boring. It felt like when you get something you really like, but think it's terrible after a bit of time. Soon, I just went back to watching the TV. However, I just kept switching channels as there was nothing good on the TV. I was just about to switch it off, but that was when the news channel turned on. It was about Covid-19. Apparently, the prime minister said that it was compulsory for people to wear face masks while going out. However, there was now a race to get face masks and there clearly wouldn't be enough for everyone. Because of this, some people wouldn't be able to get a mask at all! To make things worse, our neighbour's cat kept on coming to our back garden and was trying to scare away the pigeon in the nest. I didn't know what to do, as thoughts swarmed my brain like bees. I just sat in the living room, staring into space like a statue. Then, after what seemed like an hour, I knew what to do. I gathered some fabric, tape and rubber bands. This was because I was going to make some homemade face masks for the people who didn't have one! I would have to make over 1,000 to supply the people around the city! However, with a simple tutorial, I believed that I could do it with some help. Quick as lightning, I ran upstairs to tell my brother my plan and if he wanted to help, and he said that he was on board with it. While our parents were at work, we made the masks. First, we would fold the fabric so that it was in a thin line. Then, we would put 2 elastic bands near the edges of the fabric. After that, we would fold the remaining parts of the side so that the middle of the band was not seen. Finally, we would tape that part, open the mask and Voila! A face mask! We did this procedure until we had finished our goal of 1,000 masks. Then, our parents would send them all around the city. Finally, we would give some masks to shops around our community. We had finished our goal! After 4 days of making masks, we were finally able to rest a little bit. We got a lot of praise for our work, and we were famous around the city! We were even featured on the local news. Also, our dad put up a fence around the tree so that the cat couldn't scare the pigeon and the baby pigeons hatched! I realised that though there are obstacles in life, they won't stop its flow. As the saying goes, "The greater your storm, the brighter your rainbow."
