I wrote a poem about being in lockdown because of coronavirus. I described the virus as a giant snake, which stopped me from going outside. The Giant Snake There's a snake outside my gate, How long more will he wait? He lurcs there waiting to catch me, He wants to get my family. He's horribly yellow and dichy black, He wouldn't fit inside a sack, I want to go on a bike ride, But I can't. I have to hide. I want the sand between my toes, Or smell the meadow through my nose. I want to see my friends again, I guess I'll have to wait then. Although I'm safe at my home, I still feel all alone, But, I'm also having fun here, Even though school isn't near. I won't give up. My hands I'll wash, I'll make the water splish and splosh, I'll stand proud, very tall, When he will heavily fall. Alice, age 8.
