Lock down for Me! When we heard about the Corona virus in other countries we didn't know what to expect until it came to us . It felt like there was a big black cloud coming before the storm as the virus started to spread. At the beginning, the teachers put up NHS signs saying that we need to wash our hands and adults got a bit stressed, telling off if we didn't wash them properly. At home, we started to make hand sanitiser for our church and Mummy's friends. We knew that we had to wash our hands to stop us from getting ill. We went to the Royal Opera house and it was a bit scary, my mum kept on spraying me with sanitiser so I wouldn't get sick and I wasn't allowed to touch anything. We started lock down much earlier than anyone else because my sister had a cough and some of mummy's friends had started to get ill. I stopped going to school. I couldn't stop thinking about what might happen to me after lock down. All I wanted to do was to say goodbye to my friends but I couldn't. I had left my books in my tray and my PE kit on my peg and it felt like I would never be allowed back to school. We then started to do home schooling, Our first topic at home was ... SPACE ! Mummy tried to make it as fun as possible for us she is a teacher so we didn't necessarily do the work my teacher set me. I like Doctor Who so I made a TARDIS out of boxes, paper mache'd my own planet for doctor who to land on and wrote a story about what would have happened if doctor Who had landed on my planet. Later on in lockdown, I helped my mummy to make a Doctor Who costume from recycled material. I loved going on walks and pretending I was Dr Who. We went on a night walk to see the seed moon . It took TWO whole nights to find. I learnt all about the different constellations for my cubs astronomy badge and it was nice to have some time on my own with my Mum. We did a lot more learning at home than we ever did at school. Soon I knew the routine. Get up, have some breakfast, brush our teeth, do PE with Joe. Then it was time to start our home schooling for the day. I always looked forward to lunchtime and when learning was finished we would play in our tiny garden that we had turned into a vegetable garden as part of our learning. It was my Mummy's birthday during Lockdown so I helped Daddy to make her birthday cake and we made presents for her as we couldn't get out to the shops. For my homework, I made and designed an Easter cake with peanut butter cream we had an Easter party on Zoom with my friends from church and made Easter bonnets out of paper and painted them like rainbows. We had a scavenger hunt on zoom where my friends had to find an object but my house was so messy my friends couldn't find the object! On May the fourth we had a Star Wars day, I dressed up as Princess Leia, my Mum was a Sith lord and my sister dressed up as an Ewok. We went on a long walk to see my friends from their windows and shouted ‘May the Fourth be with you!' It was crazy but so much fun! We made another cake this time coffee flavoured and it looked like a Wookie. We ate the cake whilst watching star wars films . In the middle of lock down we started to get out a little bit more. We had to wear our face masks to keep the horrible COVID germs out of our bodies and made sure we washed our hands really well when we came home again. I learnt how to use a sewing machine and made face masks to protect us. When restrictions of lock down relaxed we went to Bedgebury Pinetum and looked at all the trees and ducks. Then we went to Rye to walk along the River Estuary and see some of the sea birds . It was really lovely to get out of the house and to go somewhere different. A few weeks later , we did tie dye with old clothes...I loved it. I learnt how to make a swirl and a heart on my t shirt ! When Frozen 2 came out we dressed up, had a party and watched the film, it was so cool ! The things that I have missed during lockdown, was hockey because I loved playing with my friends every week, I tried to play in my garden on my own and with my little sister but it really wasn't the same because my sister didn't know the rules and she kept on having tantrums as she didn't win. I have also really missed Cubs and I missed out on doing my first cub camp as it wasn't safe. I took part in a VE Day camp with my scout group where we sang campfire songs and had a quiz on ZOOM. However, it wasn't as good as a real camp with my friends in a field. The things I am looking forward to is my sister's birthday because we might be going camping and I love camping. I am also looking forward to moving up to year 4 because I will finally get to see my friends and go to school again! Lock down has made me more aware of how we need to recycle and make more use of what we have. Actually, lock down was great for me because I felt much happier at home with my loving family who supported me throughout a difficult time.
